Tower Hamlets additional HMO licensing applies borough-wide to privately let HMOs occupied by three or more people in two or more households.
Online new and renewal applications cost £1,323. A split online payment option is available: £618 on application (Part A) and £787.50 before grant (Part B); the council says paying in two parts has a higher administration fee.
Properties exempt from this scheme
- Properties controlled or managed by a local housing authority.
- Properties controlled or managed by registered social landlords and housing providers.
- Properties controlled and managed by police.
- Properties controlled and managed by fire brigade.
- Properties controlled and managed by a Health Service Body.
- Properties regulated by other enactments.
- Properties occupied by religious communities, except section 257 HMOs.
- Properties occupied by two persons who form two households unless in the selective licensing designated wards.
- Temporary exemptions can be granted for three months.
