Birmingham selective licensing applies to single-household private rented properties in 25 named wards from 5 June 2023 to 4 June 2028.
The scheme covers 25 named wards. Two streets on either side of a ward boundary can end up with different answers, so checking the ward of the property matters more than the postcode.
Paid in two parts: £375 when applying and £325 when Birmingham has decided to grant the draft licence. The total selective licence fee is £700.
Properties exempt from this scheme
- Properties licensed as an HMO.
- Properties managed directly by an educational establishment.
- Properties let by a registered social landlord such as a housing association.
- Properties subject to an Interim or Final Management Order, a temporary exemption notice, or a statutory exemption.
Discounts the council offers
- There are no discounts for landlords with more than one property.
